In the Women's Twenty20 International at Trent Bridge, England chooses to bowl first against India.
In the first game of the women's T20I series versus India at Trent Bridge, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team's regular captain, was not present when they took the pitch. Team sources claim that Smriti Mandhana attended the pre-match news conference in Harmanpreet's place because she was feeling ill on the eve of the game.
Mandhana disclosed during the toss that Harmanpreet had sustained a head injury in the previous match. "She's under observation, and I'm sure she'll get better in the next few days," Mandhana said. After suffering the injury during the T20 warm-up match against the ECB Development XI, which India lost by a slim margin of six runs on Wednesday, the BCCI subsequently revealed that Harmanpreet was rested as a precaution.
India gave left-arm spinner N. Shree Charani, who has only played five ODIs thus far, his T20I debut. Earlier in April, she made her debut for her country in the Colombo tri-series between South Africa and Sri Lanka. India has four spinners and two pacers in its bowling lineup. "We'll stick to our strengths," Mandhana said, acknowledging that she might have also decided to bowl first. After being out from the team for two years, Sneh Rana finally rejoins the T20I squad.
England, however, made some adjustments of their own. Batting at No. 4, batter Tammy Beaumont made a comeback to the T20I lineup. She has only made six appearances in T20I since the Women's Ashes in January 2022. Beaumont recently stated on ESPNcricinfo's Powerplay podcast that she hasn't given up on making a full comeback to T20Is, especially with the home World Cup approaching next year, despite losing favor in this format and missing last year's T20 World Cup.
Beaumont helped England win a 3-0 sweep in the most recent ODI series against the West Indies by striking two hundreds and forming an opening partnership with Amy Jones that spanned more than 200 runs. Her previous T20I participation came during England's visit of Ireland in September of last year, and she did not play in the T20 portion of that tour.
After missing the West Indies trip and taking a break from domestic cricket to manage her workload and injuries, Sophie Ecclestone is back in action. Alongside fellow left-arm spinner Linsey Smith, she will share spin responsibilities. England enters the game with three fast bowlers: Mahika Gaur Arlott, Lauren Filer, and Lauren Bell. Off-spinner Charlie Dean is left out. The game was supposed to start in sunny, warm weather, but bowling from the Radcliffe Road End might be a little challenging due to the southwesterly breeze blowing across the field.
