Ahmedabad-London flight Crash : It Was A Horrible Accident.

Live updates on the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash:

"The Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad was carrying over 100,000 liters of fuel, and the heat at the scene was so intense that there was virtually no chance of rescuing anyone," said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.  Just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flight AI 171, from Ahmedabad to London, crashed, resulting in a tragic event this afternoon.  In a statement, the airline acknowledged that the plane "was involved in an accident."

The jet crashed into a medical college dorm at approximately 1:30 PM, according to officials.  Amit Shah went to the hospital in Ahmedabad, which is treating crash victims.  At least one passenger survived the collision, according to authorities.  Students from the medical hostel make up the majority of the injured.  "The aircraft was carrying more than one lakh liters of fuel, and the temperature at the crash site was so high that it left no chance of survival for most on board," said Home Minister Shah during his hospital visit.

The pilot's mayday call just prior to the crash was also disclosed by officials.

All subsequent attempts by air traffic control to get in touch with the aircraft were unsuccessful.  Thick plumes of grey smoke can be seen rising from the ground in the accident site's video footage.  At least two dozen ambulances raced to the scene, and some of them were already taking the injured to hospitals in the area.  Traffic in the area has been rerouted by police.  Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, the minister of civil aviation, said he is personally keeping an eye on the issue and has given the order for all aviation and emergency response agencies to take immediate action.
